New Green Construction Code Unveiled

Now, this is aimed at commercial buidlings, but much of this is or will be available in residential buildings on a smaller scale.

The International Code Council announced the release of Public Version 1.0 of the International Green Construction Code (IGCC) to regulate construction of new and existing commercial buildings. Seattle Green Factor is nationally recognized

I’ve not actually talked much about Seattle’s Green Factor initiative, and I will work on a post about that.

In the meantime, the American Society of Landscape Architects awarded the Green Factor a 2010 ASLA Professional Award in the Planning and Analysis category. The ASLA Washington State chapter awarded a Research and Communications award to “Functional Landscapes: Assessing Elements of Seattle’s Green Factor” by The Berger Partnership.

There is an incentive for building green in King County – we’re talking real $$$

The King County/Seattle Built Green® incentive provides funding for single-family, townhome, multi-family residential, remodel and community development projects to help offset the cost of certifying and designing innovative green projects throughout Seattle and King County. Eligible projects may receive up to $20,000. Grants are funded through the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, Water and Land Resource Division and Seattle Public Utilities.

As an added benefit to incentive recipients, Built Green and the King County EcoCool Remodel program are partnering to make an online TV series featuring the projects called EcoCribz. EcoCribz episodes will feature local contractors and homeowners who are working on green remodels.
