Happy New Year! You may just be waking up on the West coast. We’ve already been up and to Rockefeller Plaza, where we went to Dean and Deluca for coffee and a croissant. and we sat outside and threw some little crumbs to the sparrows. We met outside of a Starbucks 11 years ago today, drinking coffee (and smoking, which we quit over 9 years ago) and talking about the little begging birds. Next we had a cab drop us off at the Met and we walked thru the southern half of Central Park. Lots of dogs and their people out at this hour, and some joggers and serious cyclists – and some park employees cleaning up after last night’s revelers. Steve saw a piece of Times Square confetti in the park even.

We came out at Columbus Circle and got a cab back to our hotel. We were back to the hotel at 10 AM after about 3 hours of walking, in time to get some more breakfast in the hotel restaurant (cereal and bread and tea). We talked them into a late check out at 1 PM, and we will have them hold our bags while we figure out somewhere to have lunch. A car comes at 2:30 and then we will be sitting in the airport for awhile.
