“It’s time to get positive about negative thinking”

This event runs in conjunction with West Seattle GardenFEST (but not ticket requires for THIS event) Sat, June 6, 10am – 5pm Click here for map

Seattle’s first Carbon Sequestration Garden Biochar Test Plot Project needs your help! Join them for a day of site preperation and demonstrations at the south end of the South Seattle Community College’s West Seattle campus. SSCC’s Arboretum Foundation will also be hosting an event at the north end of campus, featuring noted Northwest gardening expert Ed Hume (speaking in support of his new book: @ the LOH complex from 3pm-4pm) where they will have an information table.

They are preparing their plot for the application of treatments. This is the beginning of a 5-year multi-partner biochar soil test. This exciting example of citizen science, gives us all the opportunity to learn how best to use biochar, locally, for carbon cycle management and increased soil tilth. There will be rocks to pick, weeds to pull, tilling to be done. Come with your shovels, garden forks, wheel burrows and pick-ups. Don’t forget your gloves and sun screen.

They are also continuing to look for partners to help them make this very special site, a demonstration of their shared belief in the power of permaculture ideas, to build a new, more sustainable urban environment.

Share your thoughts on how they can use their 12’x 250′ frontage, garden border, to best effect. And help them develop a management practice, that will enhance their very own Class 4 wetland feature on the southern border if the plot.

See you @ the Carbon Garden
